Serviam in Wimbledon

We will be able to hear from two of our students about their experiences on Friday in Wimbledon!  Our first is from Kelsey and then from Emily!

Kelsey:
Today, my host sister, Maria, and I started our morning bright and early at 6:30 after a long night at the theater seeing Billy Elliot, which I absolutely loved! When we arrived at school, she went off to lessons, and the Ursuline Dallas girls went to cooking class. Cooking was amazing. My partner Maggie and I baked delicious raspberry and lemon muffins and also some cheese and sun-dried tomato twists. The cheese twists were a big hit with all the Ursuline girls, and they were so easy to make. I will definitely be trying them at home. After a short break, we brought all of the muffins and pastries to a nursing home down the street. The home was for people with both mental and physical disabilities. We were able to serve them the treats we baked and ultimately make their day. Emily, Mrs. Ide, and I had a long conversation with an extremely funny woman named Catherine. She loved the cheese twists and had a great time talking to us. Ursuline seems to always finds a way to demonstrate Serviam.
After school was out at noon, we went to the Wimbledon Commons for a picnic and a game of "rounders". It is very similar to baseball and just as fun. A few of us also got ice cream from an ice cream truck. We all got "99's" which taste like thick,  frozen whipped cream; they are sooooo good! We said our goodbye's at 3pm and then went home with our sisters. My host sister and I went shopping in Kingston for the rest of the afternoon. It's a long bus ride from Wimbledon to Kingston, but the shopping center was really cool, so it was worth it! I've not only had a great day but a great week as well. I'm looking forward to a fun weekend!!
I've attached pictures from Billy Elliot, cooking class, and a "99"
Love,
Kelsey

Emily:
Today the Ursuline Dallas girls visited the nursing home just down the street from Ursuline Wimbledon.  Before we went to the nursing home, the Ursuline Dallas girls prepared muffins and cheese twists in the Ursuline Wimbledon baking center. The Ursuline Dallas girls then walked up to the nursing home and served the treats to the residents. I talked to a lady who has lived in England her whole life and she told us about her views on many different subjects. After the nursing home, we walked back to Ursuline High School and got ready to go to the Wimbledon Common to eat lunch. All the girls walked to the common and we played rounders (a popular sport in England) and ate our lunch. It was a beautiful day outside! (the England girls often said how hot it was but for the Dallas girls the weather was a cool break from the Dallas heat!!) After we were dismissed, everyone went their separate ways and we (Emily and Gemma) went home to quickly change and go back out to Wimbledon. In Wimbledon we saw many people watching Andy Murray play on a huge TV screen in the village. We ate at a spicy chicken place called Nandos and then went to "Murrisons" (originally Morrisons but changed specially for Andy Murray) and bought some candy for movie. We then watched the movie and took a special black taxi home :) it was a great day in England!
