After visiting the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco, we spent the rest of the afternoon visiting the historic center of Lima. On our way to the city center, we stopped at a store to shop for gifts and souvenirs. Many of us bought llama stuffed animals - we have become obsessed with them! We then made our way toward the Plaza Mayor, the main plaza of Lima. There we were able to see the ceremonial changing of the guards at the Governor's Palace. At 12:00, a military band performed music for everyone at the palace. After the ceremony, we walked to a nearby famous Peruvian restaurant called Pardos Chicken. There we ate a delicious lunch which included pollo a la brasa con papas fritas (roasted chicken with fries) and lucuma ice cream (another new favorite). We had a great day today!
